Meet Jeff

As Booz Allen’s senior intelligence executive, Jeff Kimmons drives improved intelligence support and modernization across Army, Air Force, Navy, Joint Intelligence, Special Operations, and intelligence community (IC) organizations. He provides leadership support in the areas of all-source intelligence analysis; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance-processing, exploitation, and dissemination (ISR-PED), cyber, and special operations.  

Jeff’s key areas of expertise include:

• Special operations intelligence support

Jeff is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general and career intelligence professional. He joined the firm in 2011 after 36 years of Army, Joint, and National Intelligence assignments. He is a member of Booz Allen’s Community of Professional Intelligence Analysts, a company forum for sharing information, capabilities, and methodologies.

Jeff sits on the National Intelligence University Foundation board of directors, and was awarded an honorary doctorate of intelligence by the National Defense Intelligence College in 2008.

Before joining Booz Allen, Jeff served as staff director at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and at Department of the Army G2.

He holds a B.A. in history from The Citadel and an M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma.

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in your career? The threats, both conventional and unconventional, have significantly increased in complexity, lethality, and networking. Since 9/11, we have seen an exponential increase in the volume and velocity of classified and unclassified data that analysts must access, process, and comprehend for situational understanding that drives wise operational decisions. 

What challenges does Booz Allen help clients take on? We’re helping DOD and IC-wide analysts improve their game by integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning. This is a game changer. Getting it done will give U.S. and coalition forces asymmetric decisional advantage in war and global crises.  It’s also a top Defense priority. 

What advice would you offer to people who want to join Booz Allen? Regardless of your age—I joined at 59—or where you come from, come prepared to roll up your sleeves, learn how to be a business professional, and leverage your past life experiences to improve your team and the company. Apply your leadership skills with common sense, humility, humor and passion for client success; genuinely embrace Booz Allen’s purpose and values. The rest will come with time. 

How would you describe your personality as a leader? I work hard to be a collaborative, positive leader. I look beyond the day-to-day, and champion high impact strategies and investments that benefit Booz Allen, our employees, and the nation. 

What was your first job? In high school I cleaned the meat counter at a butcher shop.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I spent my first year of college in Germany before I went to the Citadel. When I was in Germany, my roommate and I decided to work at a book bindery. I worked as a ‘Schüttler’ (shaker), shaking out pallets of paper, 50 pages at a time, onto a table that vibrates. The vibration would make them align perfectly. Then the ‘Schneider’ (cutter), my boss, would cut the large sheets into individual pages for binding. We made very little money but got a useful glimpse of ground-level working life.

Why did you choose Booz Allen to continue your post-military career? I knew three former military colleagues who worked at Booz Allen. All of them were tremendous professionals, strong leaders, and ethical role models.  They all said that the firm was a great environment they were proud to be part of. That was good enough for me.
