In 2016, government agencies will accelerate the adoption of lean IT development processes and collaborative culture born in the commercial sector, in order to expedite delivery of mission capabilities and reduce system development and maintenance costs. This and other key federal IT trends for 2016 were identified by our Systems Delivery experts to help government agency leaders prepare for a new year in which the pressure to perform faster, better, and more efficiently will ratchet up even further.
“With new guidelines and regulations in place, like the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) and the U.S. Digital Services Playbook, federal agencies are shifting from a ‘keeping the lights on’ mentality to one of constant innovation and iteration,” said Gary Labovich, Executive Vice President for Booz Allen’s Systems Delivery business. “In the year ahead, agency leaders will find that the tools and processes they have at their disposal— DevOps, Agile—will not only assist in their commitment to innovation but also spur a new way of thinking across the organization.”
To develop this list of trends, the firm turned to the experts across its Systems Delivery Group and also drew on discussions with C-level clients and industry influencers. From these discussions, six trends emerged as key considerations in 2016.
