How did you get started in your field and what made you choose Booz Allen?
I have an interesting background. After graduating from college, I worked for an international education startup as a marketing and outreach coordinator. Later, I applied that experience to federal service as a U.S. diplomat with the Department of State. For 5 years, I helped to communicate U.S. foreign policy priorities to stakeholders and build internal capacity in key areas like cyber. When I wanted to transition to my next challenge, I saw Booz Allen as a great firm to explore my varied interests, particularly in cybersecurity. I knew this was the right place for me after my first few months when I learned of the numerous opportunities to take control of my career success. Since joining Booz Allen, I've continued developing my cyber expertise and transitioning into this exciting field.
Tell us more about the project you’re working on.
Each day I help my clients clearly communicate their strategic priorities and key initiatives to their target internal and external audiences in a way that achieves measurable impacts and behavior change. When I do my job well, my client’s mission value for warfighters, policymakers, authorizers, appropriators, and international partners is clear and understandable.
What’s your proudest achievement or most memorable moment at Booz Allen?
I launched and managed a weekly workforce micro-survey that helped senior leaders at my client site better understand the needs, concerns, and desires of their diverse workforce. This understanding informed their decision making. The micro-survey will continue with my client long after I transition to other assignments.
How has Booz Allen empowered you?
Booz Allen surrounded me with a support system full of knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced professionals who want to help me (and the firm) achieve my goals. For example, our flexible education benefit and mentor programs challenge me to constantly develop my tradecraft. My team and leadership also encourage me to pursue my professional interests and goals while acting as guiding lights to my future success.
What advice do you have for new Booz Allen employees?
Take full advantage of the numerous professional development opportunities available through the firm. The work world is changing so fast it can be overwhelming at times, however Booz Allen provides its employees with the resources to keep pace with many of the changes.
