In 2010, Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading strategy and technology consulting firm, announced our Sustainability Statement strengthening the firm’s commitment to creating improvements through our client work and our employees’ efforts to operate responsibly as stewards of our environment. We strive to manage sustainable operations, and our environmental service offerings help our clients achieve their sustainability goals and reporting requirements.
As part of our sustainability commitment, calculating Booz Allen’s annual carbon footprint is an important aspect of capturing our resource uses and reductions. Booz Allen’s Sustainability Program Office (PMO), with the support of the Booz Allen Sustainability Committee, manages the impacts of our day-to-day operations and our sustainability goals. Our internal Environmental Management System (EMS) follows the guidelines established by the International Organization for Standardization 14001; Booz Allen continues to improve our operations through our EMS program to set goals and track our progress. Other sustainability initiatives include using managed print services, awareness of office recycling efforts, and acquisition of recycled office products—all supporting paper and waste reductions from our staff.
This carbon footprint report focuses on activities from calendar year 2013 related to energy consumption at our facilities, and emissions from recorded employee travel. Emissions estimates are expressed in metric tons (MT) of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalents (CO2-e). This report provides an overview on the carbon footprint methodologies used. The methodologies include assumptions and data gaps for the estimated emissions calculated for energy consumption at our leased facilities and recorded employee business travel.
