The world of open source cloud brokering is changing fast. Just a little over a year ago, we introduced Project Jellyfish, a revolutionary cloud broker platform that empowers organizations to deliver self-service IT services and manage multiple cloud services from a single place.
Since then, we’ve made the entire platform available via Github, built an open source community around it, and released two new versions that have increased its functionality and greatly improved the user experience.
And now, we’re proud to announce the next major step forward for Project Jellyfish: integration with ManageIQ, the upstream open source community that forms the basis of Red Hat CloudForms, Red Hat's award-winning hybrid cloud management solution.
Announced this week at the Gartner Data Center, Infrastructure & Operations Management Conference in Las Vegas, the effort will see Project Jellyfish’s self-service catalog integrated into ManageIQ. The Project Jellyfish cloud brokering code forms the basis for a new self-service user interface in Red Hat CloudForms 4.
“We are excited to work with Booz Allen to integrate Project Jellyfish into the ManageIQ community,” said Joe Fitzgerald, vice president of Management at Red Hat. “Booz Allen's leadership and experience implementing large scale cloud projects brings a unique perspective to the ManageIQ community, and we expect the Jellyfish technology to further expand CloudForms' cloud service brokering capabilities. Booz Allen's collaboration with the ManageIQ community is also a testament to the status of ManageIQ and CloudForms as leading open source cloud management platforms, providing unified management of infrastructure and applications in hybrid cloud environments. With CloudForms, Red Hat is working to deliver true business value to enterprises, including self-service with full lifecycle management, financial management, policy based control, compliance, governance, and optimization.”
This integration represents a major step forward for cloud brokering, as the Project Jellyfish integration with ManageIQ will introduce a powerful open cloud management tool via Red Hat CloudForms. Red Hat CloudForms 4 users will see a number of Project Jellyfish’s self-service user interface features built into the platform, including the ability to view and manage their existing Project Jellyfish cloud services and requests.
The announcement is part of Booz Allen’s new Strategic Alliance with Red Hat, a longtime Booz Allen collaborator.
“The integration of Project Jellyfish with ManageIQ is a testament to Booz Allen’s long-standing relationship with Red Hat, and our joint commitment to innovation,” said Chief Technologist Jarid Cottrell, a leader in the firm’s Digital Initiative. “We have worked together to help advance and lead true end-to-end open cloud solutions, allowing us to adapt and evolve as technology continues to mature. Users will begin to see the integration of Project Jellyfish with ManageIQ in CloudForms 4’s new self-service capabilities, with more exciting features planned for subsequent releases. In addition, through our Strategic Alliance with Red Hat, we’re engaging in more innovative ways of doing business, beyond the Project Jellyfish and ManageIQ collaboration.”
With the combination of ManageIQ and Project Jellyfish, the future of open source cloud management is bright, and we’re excited to see what new opportunities this collaboration will deliver.
