On Monday, May 5, I’m looking forward to participating in an event that demonstrates Booz Allen employees’ strong spirit of service to benefit servicemen and women injured in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. On May 5, Bethesda Country Club in Bethesda, MD will kick off the fifth annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament sponsored by Booz Allen, a nationwide series of events put on by the firm’s nonprofit partner, the Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA), to help support rehabilitative golf experiences and family-inclusive golf events for wounded veterans.
From Monday through January, 2015 more than 15 firm offices across the country will coordinate tournaments in their local areas to help the SMGA in its effort to improve the quality of life for injured veterans.
The tournaments taking place in the coming months are special. Booz Allen employees, many of whom served in the military, will volunteer in many capacities and will dedicate hundreds of hours of their personal time. All of the event proceeds will provide opportunities for injured servicemen and women to learn the game of golf and receive the equipment necessary to play. I firmly believe in the enormous benefits adaptive sports offer to recovering veterans and their families. For more information about how the firm works to support rehabilitative sports initiatives, check out Andrea Inserra’s March 31 blog.
During the golf outing, participants will have an opportunity to personally witness the resiliency and perseverance of our servicemen and women while playing alongside them. I’ve been privileged to see first-hand how golf can transform affliction to rigor, mental toughness and strength. I look forward to the event on May 5 and the many tournaments to come over the next 9 months.
