McLean, VA — Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) has named Maj. General (Ret.) Richard Stone, a recognized leader in military healthcare, as a Principal, effective January 21, 2014. General Stone will serve as medical advisor for Booz Allen’s healthcare clients who are transforming healthcare delivery in the defense, civil, and commercial markets. He will assume a leadership role in the firm’s work for the Military Health System (MHS) across the Services and ultimately across the new Defense Health Agency (DHA) and Enhanced Multi-Service Markets (eMSMs).
A practicing physician, General Stone has served in both the uniformed military service and civilian clinical practice. Over a 23-year career in the Army Reserve, he served as commander of military medical units at all levels of command – from detachment to medical command – including multiple recalls to active duty. Most recently he was the Director of the Health Care Operations for the Defense Health Agency transition team, overseeing the complex and historic transition to DHA from the MHS. In this role, he served as the Chief Medical Officer and led a joint services team that provided business case analysis and business process re-engineering to ten major shared services encompassing more than $30 billion in annual expenses. He has also served as Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Commanding General of Support to the Army Surgeon General. In the private sector, he has owned and led an ambulatory medical and surgical practice, and served as senior medical officer for a community healthcare system in his home state of Michigan.
Booz Allen is a market leader in helping clients manage and lead the transformation in U.S. healthcare. “The future is integrated and solutions are multifaceted. All the services – from clinical operations and patient care to health records, payment reform, and quality improvement – must work together. This is what Booz Allen does best,” said Judi Dotson, executive vice president. “General Stone is a recognized leader in both patient care and medical administration, in both the military and civilian settings. This is a powerful combination that will benefit our clients tremendously.”
Dr. Stone is a graduate of Western Michigan University. He holds a medical degree from Wayne State University and an M.S. from the United States Army War College. He has served as a member of the Department of Defense Recovering Warrior Task Force and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.
