Joe Rohner is a leader in Booz Allen’s Data Science and Machine Intelligence capability, with a primary focus of driving analytics solutions for U.S. Navy/Marine Corps clients and helping define how the Navy can use data science to become a more mission-ready organization. Joe is a boundary-pushing, innovative, data science leader who is helping bridge the gap between big data and the rest of the world.
As the analytics West Coast lead, Joe is actively developing and delivering Data Science and Machine Intelligence solutions across multiple markets, plus building and managing a team of data scientists delivering machine learning, large-scale and stream data processing, unstructured data processing, creative data visualization, and rapid solution prototyping.
In 2017, Joe began helping organizations utilize hackathons to crowd source their data science challenges and unlock the value of their data. Working with the organizations, Joe brings together the right data science talent to prepare and engineer the data for the competition; ensures the event is “gamified” in a manner that arrives at the intended results; works with experts to provide compute environments that accelerate the time to results; engages with marketing experts to ensure that local incubators, academics, and industry participate; and facilitates the event from kickoff, through mentoring, to final judging.
Joe is also an avid data visualization enthusiast. He manages Booz Allen’s relationships with Tableau and Qlik, and helped establish a data visualization curriculum delivered to more than 3,000 employees.
Throughout his career, Joe helped organizations solve budget, financial execution, audit readiness, and data challenges. By bringing in the right processes and tools to help solve data integrity, governance, and management problems, Joe ensured that organizations better understand their operational challenges to find efficiencies.
Joe earned a B.S. in statistics and an M.B.A. from San Diego State University, California State University. He also holds a master’s certification in business analytics from Indiana University Bloomington, and is a Certified Defense Financial Manager – Acquisition, a Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst, and a Tableau Desktop Qualified Associate.
