Our clients don't view cybersecurity as choice, They see it is as a requirement—and a complicated one. Protecting systems, organizations and information from cyber threats and exploitation is a huge undertaking for our clients and a significant level of effort. We make their lives easier by helping them sort through the complex policies, organizational directives, and system-level configuration requirements, keeping their information systems safe and minimizing their compliance burden.
We're a lot like certified public accountants (CPA) in this regard. CPAs do two things—they prepare the paperwork, and they stay up-to-date on all the tax laws and nuances so you get your best return. We do something similar for our cyber clients. We prepare the extensive documentation required for reporting and we help our clients make trade-off decisions so they can stretch their often limited resources to prioritize the security precautions that will make their systems most secure.
What is interesting to me is that implementing cybersecurity is not black and white. We operate very much in the gray area, which is where I think women in the cybersecurity industry play an important role. I’ve seen many women navigate the gray areas of business and technology with ease; we like discussing the questions that fall outside of a simple yes or no answer. That’s why diversity in the workplace is so important.
